Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
The community strongly reassures bilingual and multilingual families that babies easily absorb several languages, and the key is consistency - ideally one person consistently using one language.
Bilingual parents worry that mixing languages at home will confuse their child or delay speech. The community firmly reassures that young children are remarkably good at picking up multiple languages, sharing a real example of a 4-year-old fluent in four, and advises consistency - ideally one person sticking to one language - to make it effortless.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Speak as many languages as possible but keep consistency - one person uses one language. Babies have the best language-picking ability until about age 6, so keep talking to her in your language and she'll pick it up.
Don't worry - expose the baby to as many languages as possible; they pick up easily at this stage as long as they can connect one person with one predominant language. One mom's 4-year-old speaks 4 languages with no extra effort, simply because all family and friends spoke to her in their native languages.
