Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
A temporary food strike during teething is common - moms fall back on warm soups, cold fruit, and liquids to keep the baby hydrated until the tooth cuts and appetite returns.
⚠️ Caution:A short dip in eating is common with teething, but watch hydration - fewer wet diapers, fever, lethargy, or a baby refusing all fluids needs a pediatrician. Never force-feed a distressed baby.
Parents feel helpless and anxious about nutrition when a teething baby refuses both solids and milk. Moms reassure that this is almost always short-lived, that hydration matters most in the meantime, and that appetite bounces back once the tooth is through.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Try soups - mine ate only soups, and warm ones at that. Cold fruit also helped, especially pomegranate in a fruit nibbler.
Keep offering the bottle or other liquids so the baby stays hydrated even if solids are refused. Don't force the food - appetite usually comes back once the tooth cuts through.
If refusal is severe or drags on, check for an infection with your doctor, as babies sometimes go off food when they are unwell, not just teething.
