Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Most pediatricians advise no screen time (TV or phone) before around 2 years, apart from brief video calls, then very limited, supervised time afterward; the harder part is often getting family on board once you go back to work.
⚠️ Caution:Guidelines vary slightly between pediatricians - follow your own doctor's advice. Passive screen time is discouraged for under-2s because it can affect sleep, attention and language development.
Working parents worry they can't realistically enforce zero screens, especially with well-meaning grandparents. Moms reassure that occasional video calls and rare exposure won't undo everything - the goal is keeping passive, fast-paced screen time minimal and consistent across caregivers.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Our pediatrician said definitely no screens until 2 years, and after that limit to about 20 minutes a day (say 10 minutes twice) until 5 years.
Mine advised avoiding screens till 3 years. It's a strict line for us, though some exposure while working from home is honestly hard to avoid.
We make an exception for short video calls with grandparents - that's interactive, not passive watching, so it feels different from putting on a show.
The one we're firmest about is anything fast, motion-based on TV or phone - that's the type that overstimulates. Background TV counts too, so we keep it off during play.
The tricky part is aligning caregivers. Before resuming work, sit with your in-laws or nanny and agree on the same rule, otherwise the boundary quietly slips.
