Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Babies typically roll over between 4 and 7 months, mastering one direction before the other, and the community widely reassures that delayed or one-way rolling is normal as long as the baby is progressing in its own time.
⚠️ Caution:If you have ongoing concerns about your baby's movement or muscle tone, mention it to your pediatrician at a check-up.
Parents worry when their baby only half-rolls, rolls one way, or wakes up frustrated because they can't roll back. The community offers reassurance through many shared timelines showing rolling commonly emerges anywhere from 4 to 7 months, that mastering one direction before the other is typical, and that practice and patience are usually all that's needed.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Babies typically roll between 4 and 7 months, tummy-to-back first around 4-5 months and back-to-tummy a few weeks later. By 7 months most can roll both ways; every baby develops at its own pace.
Babies often master back-to-tummy before tummy-to-back, and the reverse roll follows within a few weeks to a couple of months; lots of supervised tummy and floor practice helps them figure it out.
A 5.5-month-old not rolling willingly yet is not a concern; some babies don't roll till around 7 months.
Some babies skip steps entirely - one didn't crawl until 7 months and directly started sitting.
Many babies start rolling around 5.5 months.
If your baby only does a half-roll inconsistently at 4 months, that's within the normal range.
