Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Postpartum bleeding commonly lasts around 4-6 weeks but spotting on and off for several weeks - even up to 10-14 weeks or intermittently for months - is widely reported as normal; a single doctor visit is still wise.
⚠️ Caution:Sudden heavy bleeding (soaking through protection for hours), large clots, foul odour, or fever are not normal - see your doctor promptly. When in doubt, get checked.
Moms are anxious when bleeding or spotting drags on far longer than expected, fearing something is wrong. The community widely reassures from experience that prolonged, intermittent spotting is normal - their own doctors weren't worried - while still gently advising a check-up for peace of mind.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Bleeding often lasts about 4-6 weeks - several moms' bleeding stopped right around 6 weeks.
Spotting or on-and-off bleeding well beyond that is commonly normal: moms reported up to 10 weeks, 12-14 weeks, or intermittent period-like and spotting episodes for up to around 6 months, with doctors saying roughly a year of irregularity is normal.
Exclusively breastfeeding moms may have irregular, varying-coloured discharge and intermittent bleeding as the body normalizes.
Even with normal-range bleeding, one gynec visit is still advised for peace of mind.
