Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Community moms overwhelmingly agree that hair fall and bald spots in young babies are normal and temporary. Birth hair sheds and is replaced by permanent hair, and friction from head movement adds to it.
⚠️ Caution:If you are concerned about excessive hair loss alongside other symptoms, mention it at your baby's next pediatric visit for reassurance.
Parents naturally worry when they see their baby going bald or losing clumps of hair, fearing something is wrong. The community reassures that this is one of the most common normal phases - birth hair sheds to be replaced by permanent hair, and friction from babies moving their heads makes it more noticeable. Many moms shared that their own babies had the same bald spots at 3-7 months and the hair grew back fine.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Yes, it's very common. Babies start moving their heads and lying down creates friction against the delicate birth hair, which sheds. The birth hair falls out so permanent hair can come in, and it grows back.
Initially you may see all the hair fall and even baldness, but it will grow back good. This happened to my baby at 3-4 months.
Many babies get bald spots at the back of the head from moving their heads a lot. My daughter had this, and some babies shed hair as early as the first month.
Same with my 2.5-month-old and 7-month-old - it falls and then starts growing back, don't worry.
