Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Most moms start with 1 meal a day and build up to 2 and then 3 as the baby accepts food - some pediatricians advise 3 from the start, but going at the baby's pace is common and safe.
⚠️ Caution:Milk remains the primary nutrition under 1 year, so build up meals at the baby's pace. Always feed the baby seated and upright - never lying down or reclined - and introduce one new food at a time to watch for allergies.
Parents get conflicting advice - one meal versus three - and worry they are underfeeding or overwhelming the baby. Moms reassure that starting with a single meal and increasing gradually is a normal, safe way to begin solids.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Start with 1 meal a day. Once the baby is accepting it well, move to 2 meals, and then gradually to 3 with a snack or two as they get older.
I gave 1 meal a day initially and then moved to 2. There is no rush - increase as the baby's appetite grows.
Some pediatricians recommend 3 meals from the start, but many of us find 1 meal is plenty at the beginning. Milk is still the main nutrition at this age.
Whatever you do, feed the baby sitting up with support - never lying down or reclined, as that is a choking hazard.
