Plain rolled or quick oats (Quaker is commonly used) can start around 6 months, lightly roasted and powdered or cooked as-is from about 8 months, cooked in water, milk or breastmilk and mixed with mashed fruit like banana.
⚠️ Caution:Introduce oats as a single ingredient first to watch for any reaction before combining with other foods.
Parents aren't sure which oats are baby-appropriate or how to cook them. The community confirms plain Quaker-type oats are fine from around 6 months, powdered when young, and easy to combine with fruit and milk once introduced solo.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
You can introduce oats from 6 months. I use normal Quaker Oats - earlier I powdered it; from 8 months I use it as is.
Roast oats lightly and powder, then cook with water for 1-2 minutes on the stove or microwave and add formula, or cook directly with milk. Add a little grated apple or breastmilk while cooking.
Just cook with water (pressure cook if using steel-cut oats). Add breastmilk and mashed fruit. You can also add oats while pressure-cooking sweet potato or vegetables for texture.
Oats cerelac: dry-roast oats, makhana and dry fruits, powder and store; cook in water and add a banana.
Introduce as a single ingredient first, then mix with banana or veggie purees.
