Physical stores let you test the fit in your car and check the harness, but online shopping offers better prices and reviews. Top Indian brands include R for Rabbit, Joie, and Chicco. Always choose rear-facing for babies under 1 year.
⚠️ Caution:A car seat is a safety device, not a luxury. Never hold a baby in your lap while driving — in a crash at even 30 km/h, baby becomes impossible to hold. Ensure proper installation and never compromise on safety certification.
Car seats feel like an unnecessary expense to many Indian families, and relatives may mock the idea. Parents who use them say it only takes one sudden brake to realize how essential they are. Starting early normalizes it for baby too.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
We bought from a physical store — could test it in our car. The seat didn't fit in a hatchback but worked in the sedan. Wouldn't have known online.
R for Rabbit Jack N Jill was great value. We bought it on Amazon during a sale. Used YouTube videos to install correctly.
Joie and Chicco are pricier but the safety certifications are solid. Check for ECE R44/04 or i-Size certification — not all seats sold in India have these.
Whatever you buy, always install rear-facing for babies. It's 5x safer in a crash. Don't turn forward-facing before 1 year or 9 kg.
Car seat is very useful if you travel frequently. Joie is pretty good and has good options across the range; it doesn't fit in cabin but it's lightweight.
A car seat is the safest way to travel with a baby. We've used it since day 1. Initially they may not like it but get comfortable soon, and it doubles up as a carrier so it's very useful.
I just sit in the back with the baby from 2-3 months old while my husband drives, since a car seat occupies space when the whole family steps out.
Nuna - my baby sat in it since coming from the hospital and it's the most comfortable for long drives (take breaks every 2 hours as babies shouldn't be kept in car seats too long). The car seat attachment also connects to his stroller. Specifically the Nuna Pipa Urbn, an ultra-lightweight TUV aircraft-certified infant car seat with built-in ISOFIX for 0-13kg.
Graco or R for Rabbit - both are good.
