For breastfed babies, going several days without poop is normal unless there’s discomfort or more than a week passes.
⚠️ Caution:Seek medical advice sooner if baby has vomiting, hard swollen belly, blood in stool, fever, or is not feeding well.
Parents fear constipation or blockage. Moms often share that for breastfed babies, fewer poops can be normal—behavior and diapers are the bigger signal than frequency alone.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Breastfed babies can go once in 7 days or multiple times a day — both are normal.
Apply hing around the navel and do bicycle motions to help relieve gas.
If no poop for more than a week, then consult the doctor.
This is completely normal as long as your baby feeds well and has wet diapers through the day. Babies can poop 10 times a day or once in 10 days. Don't let anyone force you to give anything (like nutmeg) to make the baby poop, as it just irritates the stomach.
My baby pooped only every two weeks until 6 months of age and never had any trouble pooping.
Hydration matters, especially in the heat. Feed more frequently and watch that pee count stays good even if they aren't pooping often.
