Empowering mothers worldwide through connection, support, and shared experiences ✨
Moms recommend gentle, fragrance-free creams and oils like Aveeno, Sebamed, Cetaphil, Eucerin, coconut oil, and regular massage to help with winter dryness.
⚠️ Caution:If skin is cracked, oozing, bleeding, or baby seems very itchy/uncomfortable, consult a doctor—eczema may need targeted treatment.
Parents worry dryness will turn into a rash or eczema. Moms often share that winter dryness is common and improves with thicker moisturizers and gentle bathing routines.
Here's what moms in our community shared based on their own experience.
Moms shared brands like Sebamed baby cream, Aveeno Baby, Cetaphil Restoraderm, and Eucerin for very dry baby skin.
Some also use cold-pressed coconut oil or ‘little rituals’ coconut oil before or after bath to lock in moisture.
One mom uses Cetaphil massage oil in the evening after a sponge bath and leaves it on the skin overnight as part of a relaxing massage routine.
In drier climates (like parts of the US), pediatricians often suggest short lukewarm baths, gentle cleansers, and thick creams or ointments rather than lotions for eczema-prone or very dry skin.
Sebamed (baby lotion/cream) is a popular choice that worked for many from day one.
Cetaphil options moms recommend: Cetaphil baby lotion, Cetaphil Restoraderm lotion (good for dry patches, a bit expensive but effective), and Cetaphil massage oil after a bath (not sticky, keeps baby warm and moisturised).
For very dry skin, Atogla cream (the cream, not the lotion - it's thicker than Cetaphil) used consistently for a few months really helped.
Other lotions/creams that helped: Aveeno Baby, Eucerin, La Roche-Posay Lipikar AP+M Baume (patch test first), Dermadew baby cream, Kidbe body lotion and cream, and Mothercare cream.
For stubborn dry patches, doctors prescribed Physiogel (DMT, or Physiogel AI for the face). See a paediatrician or skin doctor if it persists.
Coconut oil massages help; massaging feet and palms with coconut oil at night reduces the risk of the baby putting oily hands in the mouth. Little Rituals coconut oil was also suggested.
If you're using olive oil for massage, stop it for a few days - it doesn't suit every baby and can cause allergy.
Installing a shower head with an inbuilt filter helped reduce dryness.
Mustela is excellent for the diaper area.
